Artist's Statement - My Work
"My frustration ends, when my satisfaction begins…I must create. It’s not just
my passion, it’s in my blood! I try not to impart my preconceived notions
into something that is about to develop naturally. It all has to come into my
being, by spontaneous combustion. My work is mixed media. For the most
part, I make my own oil and acrylics from the finest pure pigments and raw
materials, available on the market. Working with these pure pigments allows me
the freedom and control I want over color, flow and density. While an
exhausting number of translucent layers of color work, the removal of color is
just as important. While infusing color, layering, scrapping off paint… design
takes shape.
I paint on wood panels; for the strength and the
character of wood reflect my own. The paintings are float framed, with the
notched edges for the most part, or built out from the wall 2 - 4" depending on
the piece. The texture and build outs are cheesecloth and tissue paper. The
build-out of circles represent the circle of life. Furthermore, I love the
affects of iridescent, incandescent, interference, and metallic paints added to
the piece, where called for. When the piece is to my satisfaction, I make
the final touches, then I stop. Stopping itself takes work. I sign it, seal
it, and make the finishing touches, professionally. Although at times is has
taken me years to complete a piece, I know the look, once it is complete.
There is no greater satisfaction, to me, then to work so hard on something, and
then see it come together."
